Greta Linnea Frideborg Nordqvist Elmestad passed away on May 25, 2016, she was 97 years old.
Dear wife of the late Alf Johannes Elmestad.
Preceded in death by her father and mother, Gustaf Gottfrid and Hulda Olivia Nordqvist and 11 siblings.
Loving mother of Gary Elmestad and daughter-in-law, Katherine Marie Elmestad.
Loving grandmother of Alex Conrad Elmestad (Lauren Terbrock Elmestad) and Lauren Kathleen Elmestad.
Dear sister and aunt to many nieces and nephews, and friend.
Born December 15, 1918 in Sodra Harene/Vargarda, Sweden. Raised on a large farm in Sweden with 14 brothers and sisters. Greta loved riding horses, bicycling across Sweden and gymnastics. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking Swedish breads, cakes and cookies, which her family enjoyed on visits and during the holidays. She was skilled at knitting, and always sent beautifully done sweaters, hats and mittens to her grandchildren (of course in colors of Sweden). She also enjoyed sewing, and made much of her clothing. She loved nature, and at her homes in Florida you would always find her tending her flowers, shrubs, and grapefruit trees. Greta enjoyed having her family from Sweden visit to relax and enjoy smorgasbord, and even listen to Alf play the accordion. Greta held a number of positions, but most notably worked at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, and as a Cashier at Grand Union in Florida. She was very proud of her healthy eating and exercised well into her nineties. Greta and her husband, Alf, lived in various places throughout the United States, finally settling in South Florida. Greta lived her final years in St. Charles, MO so she could be close to her son and family.
