Caskets are made of basically two materials. They are either metal or wood. The finest metals are made of bronze. Following bronze in quaility is copper followed by stainless steel. Then you have the basic steels of 18 gauge and 20 gauge. 20 gauge is the lightest metal caskets are made from. Bronze and Copper caskets are resistant to rust and corrosion. Copper roofing material and Bronze statues have been exposed to the elements for years and have never been affected. Certain types of stainless steel are also resistant to rust and corrosion.
There are also caskets made of Mahogany, Walnut, Oak, Cherry, Poplar and other types of woods. All of the metal caskets we display are protective caskets, while the hardwood caskets are non-protective. Most families chose to place the casket in a lined burial vault, however this is not required by law. It is strictly a family's preference. |
